We are extremely proud that The Exchange is a multi-purpose space which serves the community well. It can be hired for a whole range of events and occasions. We work with a wide variety of different groups and therefore understand the needs of our users differ greatly. You can choose from our Auditorium, Thomas Brown Room and Gallery/Cafe Bar space where we deliver bespoke packages to fulfil your needs.
Our versatile three hundred capacity auditorium, including balcony seating if needed, is available for hire. It can be used for theatre, concerts, film screenings, workshops, classes, conferences, presentations, book launches and more. Depending on your needs, you can use the chairs, raked seating and tables that are stored away. The stage dimensions are 6 m x 4 m and it has two wings. If required, you get the use of two dressing rooms with toilets and a Stage Door entrance. There is a large screen at the back of the stage that can be covered by a black curtain or used with the projector and there is with a lighting and PA system which all can be discussed in your package.
Thomas Brown Room
Our lovely Thomas Brown room is a conference space that can accommodate twenty to forty people depending on the arrangement of tables. It can be used for small conferences, meetings, training, rehearsals, music practices, discussion, classes and more. It has a whiteboard, screen and the use of a projector if needed. It is is dedicated to the memory of Thomas Brown, a WW2 NAAFi Assistant who was instrumental in securing the codes used to crack the German Enigma Machine, which you can read more about here.
Our charming gallery can be hired by artists wanting to exhibit their work. You will receive wall space for one month and can sell your work. This also comes with a launch night where we can help make it special by providing live music. In here you can have non-ticketed album launches, book launches, scratch nights and small charity events. The Gallery is part of our Cafe Bar that is always open to the public during these times.
There is on-street parking which is free after 5:30 pm and weekends. In addition to this, there is a car park to the back of the building, on Norfolk street, which is free for two hours and after 5.30pm and all weekend. The venue is also equipped with free wi-fi. We have a licensed Cafe Bar, which you can read about here along with the opening hours. Catering can be provided for events through our linked catering service. There is also the option for us to support your administration, media and marketing.
