The Youth Theatre aims to use drama, dance and singing to facilitate skills progression and an understanding of key stagecraft elements. These fun, games-based sessions will promote team building, confidence in self-expression in addition to furthering interpersonal skills through dynamic and accessible drama work.  There areopportunities to perform at The Exchange.

Come and join Beverley Knight our resident Choreographer for an enjoyable hour long session where she will teach a wide variety of dance and techniques in a welcoming environment; there will be performance opportunities too.

An exciting weekly youth session singing musical theatre and film songs. It includes vocal coaching, solo and group work and acting through song. Each week you will work towards a stage concert.

We will be taking you through a range of musical theatre songs from the West End to Broadway. You will be taught how to really feel and perform the songs to give the best performance possible.

For 10 to 17 yrs. (flexible on age)

dramaDay8 Community Theatre on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

(Starting on Wednesday 7th November for a short ‘taster’ term and performing the week before Christmas. 16 – 18 yrs can apply for free place if their family is eligible )

The group is run by Lyndsey Falcus and gives everyone a taste of theatre, the only limitation is age…you must be at least 16 and no longer be legally required to attend school.

We are going to be working in all sorts of theatre genres; we will select a genre and work towards a final performance which will take place in the main auditorium at The Exchange.  The type and size of the show will determine how long a rehearsal period is but looking to start with a performance at least every 12 weeks if possible.

Not only will you experience many types of theatre and performance styles but also work on stage craft developing performance skill and knowledge along with some production aspects such as learning all about the technical side of producing a show.

Harlekin Studio OperaHarlekin Studio Opera on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm (FROM JANUARY 15th, 2019)

Sessions will start with vocal and physical warm-ups and move into exploration of musical and dramatic techniques through operatic repertoire. Participants will be given the chance to explore their voice within the chorus of Harlekin Studio Opera, as well as opportunities for solo performance where possible. Singers of all levels of experience  and ages are welcome, and participants agree to foster a welcoming environment of mutual support, respecting that everyone is on a different stage of the path and encouraging each other to become their best self.

This is aimed at Singers and Actors who will be joining us for the majority of rehearsals throughout the year, as they will be getting the most out of our sessions. However, if you are looking to take part as back stage crew, set builders, designers, linguists or in any other area of opera, get in touch and we can talk about ways in which we can collaborate.

Participants will prepare 3 performances in 2019, comprising of opera choruses, ensembles and arias, before moving on to a full scale opera for 2020. They will benefit from an advanced level of musical education tailored to their needs, and in the case of aspiring professionals will be able to build up a CV to help access further education or professional work.

Membership is set at just £25/month for 2019 and can be cancelled at any time. Subscribers have access to weekly rehearsal sessions for up to 46 weeks of the year and extra rehearsals at busy times for no extra cost. Click here for more information.

 

 

 

My Story Adventures, Mondays at 11:15 – 12:15 am

Step into the magical world of Story Adventures. Children will creatively capture the imagination of popular storybooks to promote reading for enjoyment. Through reading, singing, playing, drama and the Auditorium’s spectacular multi-media technology, stories will be brought to life to ignite young minds and imaginations. What is more – wonderful special guest authors, singers, artists and musicians will be invited along to join in the fun from time to time.

Sessions are directed by Emma and aimed at children aged 2-3 years are tailored more towards children’s advancing language, physical and social development. To help facilitate a smooth transition, qualities from the more interactive and sensory rich sessions are still utilised to bring storytelling to life.

£4 (+£1 per sibling)

Join Hannah Johnson in her class that covers the basic steps of tango for beginners whilst also giving a taste of tango culture and an introduction to the music and songs which make this dance so special.

No experience or partner needed, just come along and enjoy.
