Day8 Youth Theatre for 6 – 11 yrs, Saturday at 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

The Youth Theatre aims to use drama, dance and singing to facilitate skills progression and an understanding of key stagecraft elements. These fun, games-based sessions will promote team building, confidence in self-expression in addition to furthering interpersonal skills through dynamic and accessible drama work.  There areopportunities to perform at The Exchange.

£5 per session payable in advance, termly or half termly.   Free taster session and enrolment anytime throughout the year.





Day8 Youth Theatre for 12 – 18 yrs, Wednesday at 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

This is a chance for the older age group to experiment in stage craft and techniques in a more structured environment with creative script writing and performance opportunities.

£5 per session payable in advance, termly or half termly.   Free taster session and enrolment anytime throughout the year.


Day 8 Contemporary Dance on Tuesdays at 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

For 8 – 12 years of age all welcome. Come and join Beverley Knight our resident Choreographer for an enjoyable hour long session where she will teach a wide variety of dance and techniques in a welcoming environment; there will be performance opportunities too.

£4.50 per hour.  Free taster session and enrolment anytime throughout the year.




Day 8 Sing Theatre, Mondays at 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm 

An exciting weekly youth session singing musical theatre and film songs. It includes vocal coaching, solo and group work and acting through song. Each week you will work towards a stage concert.

We will be taking you through a range of musical theatre songs from the West End to Broadway. You will be taught how to really feel and perform the songs to give the best performance possible.

For 10 to 17 yrs. (flexible on age)

My Story Adventures, Mondays at 11:15 – 12:15 am

Step into the magical world of Story Adventures. Children will creatively capture the imagination of popular storybooks to promote reading for enjoyment. Through reading, singing, playing, drama and the Auditorium’s spectacular multi-media technology, stories will be brought to life to ignite young minds and imaginations. What is more – wonderful special guest authors, singers, artists and musicians will be invited along to join in the fun from time to time.

Sessions are directed by Emma and aimed at children aged 2-3 years are tailored more towards children’s advancing language, physical and social development. To help facilitate a smooth transition, qualities from the more interactive and sensory rich sessions are still utilised to bring storytelling to life.

£4 (+£1 per sibling)

DNE Classes The Exchange Ballroom and Latin Dance Class for Adults, Mondays at 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

You can learn how to Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Ballroom Tango and Slow Foxtrot with dance instructor Paul Andreasen.

A great way to keep fit and healthy and meet new people while having a great time.








Open Mic Night, Mondays at 7:30 pm

Open Mic Night is hosted by  JohnE Thornton.

Come along and play in the Bar, all styles welcome. In house PA provided.

Beginners Argentine Tango, Mondays at 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Join Hannah Johnson in her class that covers the basic steps of tango for beginners whilst also giving a taste of tango culture and an introduction to the music and songs which make this dance so special.

No experience or partner needed, just come along and enjoy.

Stay for tea and a scone after the class if you’ve worked up an appetite with all the dancing. Special price for dancers.

Steffen Peddie’s Big Quiz Night at Tuesday at 8:00 pm until June 26th

A weekly fun night of games, comedy and quizzes.

Hosted by local comedian, Steffen Peddie, this is a great way to liven up a Tuesday and have a good laugh.

It is £2.00 to enter and there is a play-off where you could win from the Table of Tat. There are bar vouchers on offer too.




Drink Draw Explore, the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Relax, socialise and enjoy a drink in The Exchange Cafe Bar, whilst guided through a range of creative challenges,

from drawing to mixed media.

All equipment is provided. All you need is enthusiasm

Theatre Scratch Night, the fifth Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm 

The Exchange presents an evening of new writing for the stage with its latest Scratch Theatre Night

A chance to see the borough’s new theatre writing even as it takes shape!

The Exchange showcases work in development from some of the most exciting writers and theatre makers in the N.E. Come along and be a part of the artistic process by offering your feedback on what you have seen.

The Naked Word, Thursday June 28th at 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Your chance to read your own ‘naked’ words at this open mic night for literature in the performance space in the bar.

All genres, poetry, plays, novels, stories. All welcome, writers, readers or just the curious.

East Coast Jazz

East Coast Jazz, the third Sunday of every month from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

A session for fans of jazz.  If you play, come along and show off those licks or, if you’re simply a listener, just come along and enjoy the interpretation and improvisation of a wide range of jazz standards.

Come along to the Bar for an exciting and unpredictable evening of jazz music, created on the spot by the musicians who call in for the evening.
